Harmonious working group tackles the interconnected issues of food loss and waste (FLW), examining its global impact across various dimensions. We explore the pre-retail and post-harvest stages of FLW, aligning with UN SDG Target 12.3.
Our focus areas include:
FLW and its environmental footprint: We investigate the link between FLW and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as broader environmental degradation.
Data and knowledge gaps: We assess the availability of data on FLW to inform effective solutions.
FLW and its impact on food security and nutrition: We explore how FLW exacerbates food insecurity and contributes to poor nutrition, particularly in vulnerable populations.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and FLW: We examine how businesses can integrate FLW reduction into their sustainability strategies. Through research, analysis, and collaboration, we aim to identify solutions that minimize FLW across the food supply chain. This includes promoting sustainable agricultural practices, improving infrastructure in developing regions, and advocating for policies that ensure equitable access to nutritious food.
